Cast & Creative Team

MacKillop is being staged by the Catholic production company Artes Christi and will star acclaimed Australian soprano and Opera soloist Joanna Cole in the title role. The production will feature a total cast of more than 80 actors plus a live orchestra.  The full cast will be announced in the coming days – stay tuned.

Joanna Cole has over 20 years experience as an opera singer both in Australia and internationally with her main roles including Lucia in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor (Opera Australia) Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto (OA) and Mimi in Puccini's La Boheme (Canterbury Opera, NZ). Now based in Melbourne, Ms Cole grew up in Sydney and was a student at two schools established by Mary MacKillop's sisters - St Luke's Revesby and Mount St Joseph College, Milperra.

Joanna has sung Handel's Messiah in Oxford, UK and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with Sir Charles Mackerras.  She appears regularly as a soloist with all the major Australian symphony orchestras for which her repertoire includes Poulenc's Gloria, Villa Lobos' Bacchianas Brasilieras, Canteloube's Songs of the Auvergne, Ravel's Scheherazade, Orff's Carmina Burana, Faure's Requiem, Szymanowski's Stabat Mater, Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night's Dream, Richard Strauss' Four Last Songs, Mahler's Symphonies, No 4 & 8, Mozart's Requiem, Vespers, Exsultate Jubilate, Regina Coeli, Handel's Ode for St Cecilia's Day and Messiah.  She has also performed Elijah with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

Joanna Cole is no stranger to playing strong iconic Australian women having previously taken on the demanding role of Lindy Chamberlain in the 2002 Opera Australia world premiere production of Lindy.
